đ©žDay of Atonement is TONIGHT!
...Are you ready?
Grace and Peace to you,
Get ready, because the Day of Atonement is almost upon us!
As followers of Christ, this is one of His most significant appointments. It is to be a day of prayer and fasting that is set apart to God. Those who do not participate, as the word says in Leviticus 23:29, are putting themselves under a curse:
âFor any person who is not afflicted in soul on that same day shall be cut off from his people.â
Of course, it is not my job, nor your job, to say to someone âyou are cut offâ... or something like that... our job is simply to proclaim Godâs Holy Days, do them, and let God be the judge on the matter regarding who He will have mercy on, and who He will not.
I say all that to say this: Donât take this Day lightly!
...Speaking of the word âdayâ, if it werenât already clear from the creation week of Genesis 1, it is within the context of Yom Kippur that we understand that a biblical day is from evening to evening (sunset to sunset). Look at these words from Leviticus 23:27,32:
27 âAlso the tenth day of this seventh month shall be the Day of Atonement. It shall be a holy convocation for you; you shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire to the LORD.
32 âIt shall be to you a sabbath of solemn rest, and you shall afflict your souls; on the ninth day of the month at evening, from evening to evening, you shall celebrate your sabbath.â
By default, Greco-Roman culture has taught us that a day begins at midnight (12am). However, the Hebrew says otherwise. It is from sunset to sunset.
The language here in Leviticus 23 also seems to indicate that just before the tenth day begins and in the late afternoon (or early evening) towards the end of the ninth day, everyone should be well prepared to observe the Day of Atonement.
This is the day when sins are canceled, forgiven, and pardoned. What an incredibly beautiful day it is!
Now, donât make the major mistake that a lot of âTorah observantâ, messianic, and âfeast keepingâ people make... Donât observe this day in a spirit a pride, performance, and legalism...
Simply pay attention to the parallel passage in Isaiah 58 because it is all about the heart. Setting this day apart is useless unless repentance is truly made humbly from the heart. Remain humble and you will be blessed!
