The (Biggest?) Objection About How I Count Daniel's 70 Weeks
Is Daniel 9 and the 70 Weeks *Only* A Future Prophecy?
📩 I want to share a common objection I have been receiving a lot lately regarding how to properly count the 70 Weeks of Daniel timeline. First, I’ll give you the objection / question in bold; and then I’ll share my response below it:
❓Question:
If Gabriel is giving Daniel a prophecy about coming events, how is the rebuilding of Jerusalem (page 130 in your book) completed by King David, in 2 Samuel, a prophecy? The book of Daniel came after the book of 2 Samuel.
🎯My Response:
This is a common misunderstanding, and it mostly has to do with Daniel 9:25. I have attached a screenshot of this verse below so you can see for yourself. The words "There shall be..." are italicized --- they do not appear in the original Hebrew Masoretic text. This is true of any words found in your Bible that are italicized. These italicized words are added by the translators with the intention of providing clarity for the readers, but in many cases, especially dealing with the “coded” prophecy of Daniel 9, they only serve confuse the truth of the original message.
In other words, your question already has a built-in bias when you said this prophecy is only about "coming events". That is not true. The clock started with one main historical event — Moses getting the command at the burning bush. Then David's birth is used correctly to establish the parameters for beginning the entire count (with the first 7 Shabuim, of course). Indeed, most of the prophecy is dealing with the future, but not all of it.
The idea of Jerusalem being RE-built also throws people off. Simply pay attention to Genesis 14 and the "King of Salem", and you will see that the city of Jerusalem was a place of proper worship toward God immediately after the Flood took place. Sometime after Genesis 14, it apparently became corrupted, and that is why David was tasked with conquering the city from the Jebusites.
These three images show the most common interpretations of the 70 Weeks of Daniel (not in any particular order). As you can see, whether it is the (1) Seventh-Day Adventist, (2) Jehovah’s Witness, or (3) Protestant / Evangelical interpretations, they all believe that the clock began with the rebuilding of Jerusalem under Nehemiah and Ezra. The problem is that none of them can agree on a starting date. One says 457 BC was the correct beginning point, another 445 BC, and finally 455 BC.
The good news is that when you take the time to fully investigate every single Hebrew word in the prophecy, you will be able to clearly see that the clock began with Moses at the Burning Bush to “go and get my people” from the land of Egypt, from which they would then travel East, in order to reach Canaan. Then, there is a perfect and beautiful synchronicity in the timeline to the time of a Mashiach Nagid (Anointed Commander) that takes place 343 years later—a period of 49 years per week x 7 weeks. This Anointed Commander also recaptures Jerusalem from the Jebusites, and it is none other than King David. Therefore, the command at the burning bush is indeed the spoken command to exit East (in Hebrew, מִן־מֹצָא דָבָר —transliterated as Min-Motsah Dabar) of Daniel’s 70 Weeks prophecy.
